Ok here we go!
First..a little about me..
My name is Amanda Whitmire, and in August of 2019, I purchased my first BLM mustang and named her Midnight's Nightmare, aka "Luna". Having ridden horses my entire life and owning several over the years, I thought I was prepared for a previously wild mustang. Luna had done a "Mustang Makeover" type of challenge, where she had been trained to be ridden already! I went to visit her the first day and absolutely fell in love with the thought of owning a piece of American history! I purchased her and we started a long journey together.
I remember bringing her to my barn where I had bought a nice fly sheet for her, and bringing over the fly sheet to cover her "like a regular horse" ...when suddenly she came alive darting to the other side of the pen. I was in shock, jumping backward, and folding up the blanket really small to show her that it wasn't anything to be afraid of. She snorted at me, paced back and forth and anxiously eyed the blanket as I inched my way closer over the span of maybe 10 minutes? With any other "regular horse" I would've had her covered and I would've been on my way home already. But with Luna, I could tell there was fear in her eyes, and rightfully so, I figured she just must never have seen any type of blanket before. "That's ok," I thought. I will ease her into it.
Welllll, a week later she finally wore the blanket! It took A WEEK!!! To put a blanket on this horse. I was frustrated, annoyed, but I could totally understand her point of view. This "human world" was different, and whether I liked it or not, this was my horse and I was just going to have to be patient and teach her all of the "regular horse" things.
I set out on a mission to make Luna a great "normal riding horse" but what happened instead was mind-blowing! Luna has taught me SO much about the "mustang world" and I am forever grateful to her for it! I have learned many techniques with Luna and other mustangs that I think horse owners (or those who are just interested and have never owned a horse) can really benefit from, so I am here now to teach you what I have learned!
If you're passionate about the American mustang, get ready for this up-close and personal course that will put you in touch with your wild side!
My personal mission is to inspire 150+ families to learn about mustangs and ultimately adopt one of their own!
